Rugby equipment company Powa Products International is experiencing increased interest from international markets.

Powa designs, manufactures and markets a comprehensive range of rugby related products. These include training equipment ranging from custom designed scrum machines with electronic measuring to padded contact items and simple plastic cones. On field equipment ranges from balls to branded goalpost padding and flags.

What makes our products unique is that they can be custom designed, and are made by people who know their rugby, with emphasis on quality and service, says Chris Deighton, who founded the company in 1989.

Powa’s products are suitable for both rugby union and rugby league, at junior and senior levels. The company also supplies some equipment for netball and the growing traditional Maori sport of Ki-o-Rahi.

Chris designs most of the specialist equipment himself, and the more complex products are manufactured by Powa themselves. Some of the manufacturing is outsourced, but everything is delivered to Powa Products in Feilding for assembly, quality control and dispatch.

Our clients range from schools and clubs to national rugby unions, says Chris. We are well established in New Zealand, with people like the All Black scrum coach Mike Cron rating one of our scrum machines the best on the market.

Powa products are in use in many rugby-playing countries, including Australia, the UK, Ireland, Japan and the USA.

Still, we are looking for distribution partnerships in many markets. The main thing is that the distributor has to have access to the rugby market in their country.
