The innovative MultiKai Cooker range is becoming even more convenient, with a new bench top model launched recently.
This adds an easily portable option to our range, says company director Doug Andrews, who invented the MultiKai Cooker more than ten years ago.
The idea is that you can use a barbecue-type setup to cook food using a range of different methods. You can barbecue in it, smoke fish, bake bread, roast meat… the options are endless.
The name MultiKai refers to the fact that you can use the cooker for many types of food at the same time. (Kai being the Maori word for food.)
The cooker can even be used to cook food using a method that harks back to the traditional Maori hangi, where food is buried with hot stones and covered with wet leaves to steam. In New Zealand, the MultiKai Cooker is a popular way to get the authentic hangi taste more conveniently. The food is smoked first, then steamed under low pressure and finally roasted in dry heat over a period of about two hours.
The MultiKai Cooker essentially consists of a wok-like dish heated over a gas flame. The food is stacked in separate baskets above the hot plate, usually with meat at the bottom and vegetables in the top basket, and then enclosed in a stainless steel cooking chamber with a lid. Wood shavings can be added on the plate for smoke, and/or water for steam.
With the cooking chamber removed, the MultiKai Cooker functions as a barbecue hotplate, shallow fryer, wok or casserole dish. With the cooking chamber and baskets fitted, the MultiKai Cooker functions as a smoker, low-pressure steamer or oven.
The MultiKai Cooker will cook the entire meal, all at once, to perfection, with a unique taste and magnificent flavour, says Doug.
It’s a very healthy way to prepare meat, as the fat drips from the food onto the plate. Eventually it forms a gravy that spreads in the steam, adding flavour to all the food in the cooker.
The MultiKai Cooker is not only healthy, but is an economical and easy way to prepare food even for large numbers of people. The cookers are available in family sizes all the way up to commercial cookers that can prepare food for 250 people at a time.
MultiKai Cookers are made from durable, hygienic stainless steel at the MultiKai factory in Whangarei, New Zealand, as well as at an offshore factory in China.
The MultiKai Cooker is certified by the Australian Gas Association and is covered by Australian and New Zealand patents.
The cookers have already earned a firm foothold in Australia, is launching in North America/Canada, with more countries to follow.
The MultiKai Cooker is ideal for any market where health is valued, especially those with a tradition of outdoor cooking, says Doug.
